"My ass is soaked and bruised".

I joined the "My ass is soaked and bruised" - I was once a competitive figure skater"- group on Facebook because of these reasons:

1. You wore "ankle jellies".
2. You failed the starlight waltz.

3. You remember patch and scribes.
4. You read the silver blades book serie.
5. You had an off-ice trainer who was crazy.

6. The friends you see the most are from skating.
7. Your gloves smelled of hairspray and frozen snot.

8. You wore those awful bike shorts with pads under your tights.
9. Breaking in new skates was the worst thing in the whole world.

10. Your skatebag was a suitcase with wheels and it broke every month!
11. You see skating judges around and swear that they still hate you.

12. Most of your childhood memories are linked to an arena in some way.
13. Double axels were fun when you were 11 but you dreaded them by 15.

14. You ever thought that the 2002 Olympics were your chance...or 2006...or?
15. You were late for school every morning because of early morning practice.

16. You had a love hate relationship with the lady who taped the results sheet to the wall.
17. You held contempt for your mother for waking you up for those early morning practices.

18. You wished that you were a boy so that you automatically made it to divisionals.
19. You tried to do the Michelle Kwan FS game flying camel and bellyflopped.

20. Your feet were covered in blisters and you swear you had new bones forming.
21. You and your parents knew every arena worker on a first name basis.

22. You once had a pair of plaid pants that said "figure skating bum"...on your bum.

23. You had at least one off-ice romance w/ a club member, as pathetic as it may have been.

24. You complained about biased judges yet gave them huge fake smiles during your spiral sequence.

25. Your idea of a good night was hockey players arriving early for their games while you were skating.

26. Instead of spending your summers outside in the warmth, you spent them inside in the cold.

27. You owned one of those shirts that said "if figure skating were easy, it would be called hockey".

28. You got yelled at by another skaters mom for purposely running into her daughter while practicing your footwork

29. When you had skating friends over you almost always either: made up routines to classical music & judged each other, practised off ice jumps, and lifts.

30. You played the Michelle Kwan figure skating game on your computer and thought that her flying camel was the funniest thing in the world.

31. The movie "Ice princess" p*ssed you off, because if it took you 6 months to land an axel, there's no way this girl could be doing triples right away!

32. Your mother, who never skated, knew every jump and spin, but your dad knew one thing: "Well you must've done well because you didn't fall".

33. You owned a spinner. You begged your mom to buy it for you because obviously you would use it all the time and your spins would improve so much. Truthfully, you used it twice and then it just started to weigh down your skatebag.

This is actually a very good summary of my figure-skating carrier.
I miss it! I love it! And I will never forget how much experience it gave me.
Not just for figure skating, but also for life.
The highest is not to fall, but to rise up after each fall.

Så sant! Alla punkter stämmer in, men även för nuvarande konståkare ( som mig själv) haha...förrutom att mamma inte vet ett smack om konståkning..och pappa...tala inte ens om det! =)
